Complete Vandal Shell Combat Guide: A-Tier All-Around Combat Mastery

VANDAL FUNDAMENTALS

The Vandal - Combat shell is Marathon's most forgiving combat specialist. With 150 HP, 35 Shield, and medium-fast speed, Vandal teaches you positioning before punishing mistakes. Combat Flow passive rewards kills with movement speed boosts. The arm cannon active gives you vertical escape options when fights go wrong. Micro Jets trait adds a second jump for repositioning.

New Runners start here for good reason. Vandal works in solo queue and squad play. You learn combat fundamentals without the glass cannon risk of Assassin - Stealth or the team dependency of Triage - Support. When you outgrow Vandal, you graduate to specialists knowing what works.

WEAPON LOADOUT STRATEGY

Vandal's medium-fast mobility lets you flex between ranges. The M77 Assault Rifle - AR (16 damage, 450 RPM) covers most engagements with Light Rounds availability. Pair it with the Copperhead RF - SMG SMG (12 damage, 720 RPM) for close-range cleanup or the Hardline PR - Precision Rifle (23 damage, 275 RPM) for mid-range precision.

Your weapon choice shapes your positioning. M77 plus Copperhead keeps you mobile in mixed-range fights. M77 plus Hardline gives you more control at distance. Both work. Pick based on your team composition and the map you're running.

CORE UPGRADES AND MODDING

High-Octane Propellant (Superior Core) extends your Microjets upward range. This core transforms Vandal from mobile to airborne. Vertical mobility is Vandal's signature advantage over other shells.

Adrenal Core (Superior Core) reduces heat generation during amplification and extends Amplify duration when you use Cardio Kick. This core rewards aggressive play without overheating penalties.

For weapon mods, Precision Grip - Grip MOD - Superior (Superior) on your primary greatly improves ADS stability and reduces vertical recoil. Combat gets messy in ranked. Stability mods keep you accurate when third parties arrive.

RANKED POSITIONING TACTICS

Vandal excels at mid-range control with escape options. Position on high ground where Microjets give you rotation advantages. Use your arm cannon to reach elevated positions other shells cannot access. When fights turn unfavorable, your vertical mobility creates distance.

Combat Flow passive makes you faster after kills. Use this speed boost to reposition between engagements or chase wounded enemies. The movement speed increase stacks with your natural medium-fast speed, making you temporarily the fastest shell on the battlefield.

In squad ranked, Vandal pairs perfectly with Triage and Destroyer - Combat. You provide mobile damage while they handle sustain and area control. Your Microjets let you flank while your squad holds attention. Execute isolated targets, then use vertical mobility to return to your team.

HEAT MANAGEMENT ESSENTIALS

Vandal generates heat through Microjets and sustained combat. Plan your ability usage around heat thresholds. Use one Microjet charge for positioning, save the second for emergencies. Overheating during a fight removes your escape options.

Combat Flow passive encourages aggressive play, but heat buildup punishes sustained engagements. Take fights you can win quickly. Use your mobility to break contact when heat climbs too high. Return to fights after cooldown, not during overheat recovery.

The 150 HP floor + Combat Flow synergy is clean for learning — you get forgiving stats while the kill-speed boost teaches you momentum timing. That said, arm cannon escape is a *reactive* tool; pair it with Micro Jets *intentionally* for vertical pre-positioning, not panic jumps. New Runners should hit positioning drills before chasing kill streaks.

Steam guides are already flooded with Vandal comparisons, but the "forgiving" angle is getting push-back: experienced players are saying it masks bad habits instead of teaching positioning. Worth watching if new player retention data backs that up or if the community consensus shifts once the meta tightens.
