THE PROJECTILE SPAM CRISIS IS OVER
Marathon 1.0.6.2 just hit with anti-grenade spam measures and Ares one-shot protection, but the real ranked story isn't what got nerfed—it's which shells benefit from the new projectile-resistant meta. When explosive spam gets contained and railgun one-shots disappear, shell mobility and positioning matter more than raw damage absorption. Fast shells with good escape options climb the tier list. Slow tanks that relied on face-tanking projectiles drop.
The patch notes don't spell this out, but reducing projectile effectiveness makes ThiefStealth and AssassinStealth significantly stronger in ranked. Both shells already dominated solo queue through mobility—now they're less vulnerable to their main counter: explosive area denial. DestroyerCombat and RookFlex, the traditional projectile tanks, lose their primary advantage when projectiles stop controlling space as effectively.
DESTROYER DROPS FROM SQUAD S-TIER
Destroyer's ranked dominance came from forcing Holotag kills through Iron Frame durability and projectile resistance. With anti-spam measures reducing explosive effectiveness, Destroyer's 175 HP and 50 shield become less relevant—mobility matters more than raw tankiness in the new environment. Destroyer's slow speed (the slowest in the game) becomes a liability when you can't rely on face-tanking projectiles to close distance.
The shell that benefited most from projectile spam was ironically the one designed to counter it. Destroyer's Riot Barricade absorbed explosive damage while the shell pushed objectives. Remove the spam, remove Destroyer's primary use case. Expect Destroyer to drop from squad S-tier to A-tier as teams prioritize mobile shells that can reposition quickly instead of tanking through damage.
Counter Attack and Impact Siphons cores lose value immediately. Both cores converted incoming projectile damage into offensive utility. Less projectile spam means less conversion potential. Destroyer players should swap to Bullrush or Intake Vents—cores that enhance Destroyer's mobility rather than its damage absorption.
FAST SHELLS INHERIT THE META
Thief jumps from S-tier solo to potential S+ territory. With 90 HP and Very Fast speed, Thief was already the premier Holotag theft specialist. Reducing projectile spam eliminates Thief's biggest weakness: getting area-denied by explosive weapons while attempting objective steals. Thief players can now commit to riskier Holotag attempts without worrying about grenade carpets blocking escape routes.
Assassin benefits similarly. 100 HP and Fast speed plus Shadow Step passive made Assassin the high-risk stealth specialist. Anti-spam measures remove the primary method teams used to flush Assassin players out of hiding: explosive area denial. Shadow Strike core becomes significantly more valuable—attacking from invisibility was always strong, but now opponents can't preemptively spam explosives to prevent stealth approaches.
VandalCombat and ReconIntel maintain A-tier positioning but for different reasons. Both shells have Medium speed and balanced stats, making them less affected by the projectile changes than specialist shells. Vandal's Combat Flow passive remains strong regardless of explosive effectiveness. Recon's Echo Chamber core actually improves—with less projectile spam obscuring sightlines, Echo Pulse reveals become more actionable intelligence.
IMMEDIATE LOADOUT ADJUSTMENTS
Drop projectile-heavy loadouts immediately. The patch specifically targets grenade spam and one-shot potential, making explosive weapons less reliable for area control. Swap from Misriah 2442Shotgun and WSTR Combat ShotgunShotgun to precision weapons that benefit from cleaner sightlines.
BR33 Volley RiflePrecision Rifle becomes the new ranked standard. 14 damage, 900 RPM, 27 magazine, Long range—exactly what you need when projectile weapons stop controlling space. Pair with Oracle LensOptic MODSuperior optic for ADS speed and movement accuracy. The anti-spam environment favors sustained precision fire over burst damage.
V75 ScarAR with Pinpoint BarrelBarrel MODSuperior handles mid-range engagements where shotguns used to dominate. 18 damage, Volt Battery ammo type, Medium range—reliable damage without relying on projectile mechanics that the patch weakened.
