Steam reviewers with serious hours aren't sweating the vault grind. The 375-hour player who went negative had a telling complaint: "This game was a gem in beta... ever since they nerfed the KnifeMelee and double barrel its been down hill." That's not a vault problem — that's a meta shift problem.
Meanwhile, the 216-hour reviewer stayed positive: "Game is so underrated. Obviously some issues but hopefully will be fixed with season 2." The 312-hour veteran was even blunter: "The game openly challenges you to survive the world and its threats, if u have paper mental you may struggle."
Steam veterans see vault difficulty as intended design. Reddit sees it as a barrier to Season 2 readiness.
THE RANKED DISCONNECT
What's missing from both platforms? Ranked discussion. Bungie dropped Season 2 details with zero mention of ranked changes, and the community isn't pushing back. The 89-hour Steam reviewer said it best: "Haven't had a game where I think about playing it when I'm not... Not since Halo 2 have I been so obsessed with pure multiplayer."
But that obsession isn't translating to ranked speculation. Players are grinding vaults, not climbing ladders. The disconnect suggests Marathon's ranked mode isn't sticky enough to generate pre-season hype — or players are too busy mastering PvE to care about competitive changes coming June 2nd.
