Marathon Patch 1.1.0.3: What Changes Actually Matter for Ranked

CE SCORE5.5

THE PATCH IN BRIEF

Update 1.1.0.3 is a small patch. Most of it is bug fixes. One change has real ranked consequences. Two others are worth knowing about. The rest is cosmetic noise and stability work — stop reading once you have what you need.

Ranked reaction to this patch is not yet available. It just dropped. What follows is evidence-based analysis of the patch notes themselves, not community consensus.

THE CHANGE THAT MATTERS: RANKED SOLO QUEUE IS GONE

The biggest ranked news in this patch is a removal, not a buff. Bungie fixed an unintended Solo queue selector in Ranked on Perimeter. It is now gone.

The developer note is explicit: the intention for Ranked is that crews of all sizes enter the same match — the same design as Season 1. Solo queue in Ranked was never intended and did not function as players expected.

This is the most significant competitive implication in the patch. If you were queuing Solo in Ranked on Perimeter, that lobby composition was broken. You were not getting the experience Ranked is designed around. Mixed-crew lobbies — duos and trios alongside solo Runners — are the correct environment now.

What does this mean immediately? Shell selection shifts. Thief - Stealth's S-tier solo ranking was built on its ability to hit Holotag targets and extract in mixed-crew lobbies — and that remains the correct read. Assassin - Stealth's A-tier solo evaluation was also premised on mixed-crew Ranked. Neither rating changes. But any climb strategy built around exploiting the unintended solo queue needs to be discarded today.

If you were farming Holotags against solo-only lobbies, that population is gone. Adjust your risk model accordingly — you will face trios more consistently now.

MIDA CAPSTONE CHANGE: ANTI-VIRUS REPLACES CARDIO KICK

MIDA's final Capstone now grants ANTI_VIRUS.EXE at run start — two minutes of Anti-Virus protection — replacing a Cardio Kick that was broken and did not stack with the Dexterity track's Full Throttle perk anyway.

For ranked players using the Dexterity track seriously, this is a quiet upgrade. The old Capstone was dead value if you had Full Throttle active. Anti-Virus protection at infil is meaningful in Dire Marsh and Night Marsh, where environmental toxin threats and the Lockdown event's anti-virus requirements are live factors. It is not a meta-shifting ability, but it is real utility replacing a non-functional one.

If you are building toward MIDA's final Capstone, the reward is now worth having. The competitive ceiling here is modest — this does not move MIDA into a tier conversation — but it fixes a broken node. That is always worth noting.

KKV-9SD CONTROLLER FIX: NARROW BUT REAL

The KKV-9SD - SMG received a fix for an issue where it would stop firing on certain controllers mid-trigger-hold. At 1200 RPM with 23-round magazine capacity, any fire interruption is a fight-losing event at close range. This fix matters to controller players running the KKV-9SD in CQB engagements — particularly in Cryo Archive's tight corridors or Outpost's Pinwheel interior.

PC players are unaffected. If you were avoiding the KKV-9SD on controller due to this behavior, the block is now removed. It remains a high-risk, high-upside weapon in CQB — that evaluation holds.

BOTTOM LINE

One structural change, one functional fix, one marginal upgrade. The ranked solo queue correction is the headline — mixed-crew lobbies are now working as designed. Adjust your shell picks and Holotag strategies to account for consistent trio pressure. Everything else in this patch is a narrow fix, not a meta lever.

Thief and Assassin remain your top solo picks in the corrected queue environment. Play accordingly.

The framing here is smart—bug fixes and cosmetic noise get fast-walked, which means the article is already filtering for signal. The real tell will be whether that "one change with real ranked consequences" shifts how the tier ladder locks in (which abilities become non-negotiable, which builds collapse). Right now it's evidence-based analysis of patch notes alone, no live data yet—that's the honest move, but also the moment where meta calls are still malleable. Watch which top-tier players move first; that's where you'll see if this patch accelerates an existing trend or stalls one.

Article admits ranked data isn't in yet—so this is pure patch-notes reading, not what actually moved the needle in matches. The honest move: flag the one real ranked change they ID'd, note the two worth watching, then wait for players to report back instead of theorycrafting stability patches into balance narratives.
