Marathon Triage Shell: The Squad Anchor Nobody Debates

THE SIGNAL THIS CYCLE

One video this cycle, and neither covers Marathon meta directly — LUCKYY 10P's content this week was focused on Bungie corporate news: the studio head's departure and the Destiny 2 layoff situation confirmed on June 25. That is relevant context for Marathon's development trajectory, but it doesn't move weapon or shell tiers. What does shape this piece: the dev update from June 23, the mid-season roadmap, and what the Vault Breaker announcement tells us about where Triage - Support's value is heading — because the answer is up, and it's not close.

WHY TRIAGE IS THE MOST DEFENSIBLE PICK IN MARATHON RIGHT NOW

Triage has always been the squad anchor. Reboot+ revives downed or dead crew members at range — up to 50m — and can lock onto two targets simultaneously. Med-Drone runs two charges, attaches to anyone on the crew, and prevents bleed-out while downed. Shareware.exe means every consumable you apply to yourself sends 25% of the benefit to Med-Drone-attached crew. Battery Overcharge runs for 45 seconds, layering weapon handling and ADS improvements while applying EMP on shield breaks with volt weapons. That is a complete four-ability kit with no dead slot.

The Electron Recapture Sinks Prestige core is the piece that makes Triage threatening rather than merely useful: while Battery Overcharge is active, downing a Runner or defeating a hostile with a volt weapon instantly restores a portion of that weapon's charge. Pair that with something like the V85 Circuit Breaker - Shotgun — an energy shotgun that outputs burst damage at CQB — and you are sustaining offensive pressure in the same loop that's keeping your crew alive. This is not a passive support shell. It has teeth.

Cradle allocation for Triage is straightforward. Support track investment is the obvious priority — the Factory Reset perk means reviving a crew member restores your own health, and Optimal Support improves how much health revived allies recover. These are source-listed values, exact breakpoints unconfirmed in-game, but the direction is clear: deeper Support track investment compounds Triage's core loop. Resistance track supplements this, improving self-repair and hardware for a shell that is frequently targeted.

WHAT VAULT BREAKER CHANGES

The mid-season Vault Breaker mode arriving July 21 is a crew or solo PvE run through Cryo Archive with no loot extraction — gear stays behind, Vault Data is the currency out. The implication for Triage is that any coordinated crew running Vault Breaker will want a sustain anchor for the progressive vault difficulty. Sponsored Kit loadouts gate what you bring in, but Triage's ability kit is intrinsic to the shell — Med-Drone, Reboot+, and Shareware.exe all come with you regardless of kit tier. The shell becomes more valuable in exactly the mode where gear parity is enforced and crew coordination is the differentiator.

RANKED IMPLICATIONS

Triage is D-tier in solo ranked and S-tier in squad ranked — the widest mode split on the roster. That gap is the whole story. In solo queue the shell has no one to anchor; its entire identity is crew-sustain, and without a crew that's a dead kit. In squad ranked, Triage is the reason coordinated teams extract more consistently than uncoordinated ones. The Samaritan Prestige core compounds the loop further — sharing a consumable via Shareware.exe reduces the cooldown of the next Med-Drone. Every patch that doesn't break this kit is a patch where Triage stays S-tier in squad.

The Bungie organizational news is noise for this week's tier table. Triage's position was set before it and holds after it. If you are running squad ranked and you are not slotting a Triage, you are spotted a structural disadvantage before the first fight starts.

Move before your opponents figure out their crew comp.

The piece cuts off before the actual dev update, so I can't tell if there's a real Triage Shell anchor build being missed or if the headline is running on speculation—that's the difference between "nobody debates it" and "nobody's seen the numbers yet." If you've got the full dev notes, the real question is whether Cradle reallocation or a shell swap is eating the two percentage points the build leaves on the table.

The article cuts itself off mid-sentence and never lands the specific dev update claim—can't grade an argument that isn't finished. What's here is setup (Bungie studio instability as context for Marathon's trajectory) but no concrete data on shell balance, Cradle mechanics, or faction perks that would move actual tier work. Without the payload, this reads as premise without payload.
