Marathon Vandal Build: The Amplify Ranked Climb Guide (S2)

LOADOUT GRADE8.2

THIN SOURCE SIGNAL — HONEST FRAMING

No build-specific video content arrived this cycle. Both sources this week cover Bungie studio news — the ongoing restructuring and layoffs affecting Destiny 2 and Marathon development teams — not loadouts or gameplay. That means this analysis draws entirely from the database and game-system knowledge. No creator claims, no community quotes, no video breakdowns. Clean slate, first principles.

The build is still worth the deep read. Here's why: Vandal - Combat is the most forgiving ranked shell for mid-tier climbers, and almost nobody is running her Cradle path correctly.

THE WIN CONDITION

Vandal's power loop is deceptively simple to describe and genuinely difficult to execute well. Amplify refreshes your heat bar and overcharges all movement abilities for 30 seconds — that's Microjets and Power Slide both running hotter, faster, and cheaper simultaneously. During that window, your Agility and weapon handling spike. The win condition is: Amplify active, Disrupt Cannon used to create separation or peel a Runner off position, then Power Slide into a burst-fire engagement where your handling advantage closes the kill faster than your opponent can react.

The bottleneck is almost never damage. It's Amplify availability. Get that recovery time down, and the build stops feeling like it has a long awkward dead zone between windows.

CRADLE PATH — WHERE MOST PLAYERS LEAVE POWER ON THE TABLE

Every Cradle value below is source-listed with unconfirmed exact breakpoints — use the Cradle planner at /cradle to map this precisely — but the shape is correct and free to respec at any moment.

Priority 1: Recharge track to the Lethal AMP perk (sources list it at 14 Energy). Downing a Runner grants Tactical energy; eliminating one grants Prime energy. This is the perk that makes Amplify feel like it's always up during a hot Holotag fight rather than something you ration. Also grab Primed at the 10-Energy breakpoint to start runs with partial Prime charge — that first engagement Amplify is enormous for establishing early map position.

Priority 2: Endurance to Quick Vent (sources list it at 3 Energy), then Heat Dissipation at 9 Energy. Vandal burns heat fast. Power Slide and Microjets both generate it; Amplify temporarily masks the problem but doesn't eliminate it. Quick Vent means that brief moment after a fight where you're crouched behind cover actually does cooling work.

Because respec is free, there is zero cost to testing this shape for a session and adjusting. The Recharge/Endurance split is the version I'd hand to a player in Bronze trying to reach Silver and not lose it on the way back down.

CORE AND IMPLANT SLOTS

Vandal's best core for ranked is Calling Card (Prestige) — Disrupt Cannon also Hacks targets caught in the blast. A Hacked runner is a visible, trackable runner. Combined with Recon - Intel's Interrogation trait this would be redundant, but on Vandal it's your entire intel tool. Knowing where the player you just poked with Disrupt Cannon went is often the difference between a clean push and walking into a counter-ambush.

Secondary core is Mechanized Holsters (Deluxe) — Power Slide reloads your ballistic weapons from reserves and recharges a portion of your volt weapons' battery. The moment you clear on a slide, you're not stopping to reload. It sounds like a comfort pick. It is not. It is a direct TTK reducer in multi-target scenarios.

For implants: ** Bionic Leg Upgrades V4 - Legs - Superior (Superior, Legs) brings the Agility stat to a level where Power Slide distance meaningfully outpaces standard opponent tracking. Energy Harvesting V4 - Head - Superior (Superior, Head) gives Tactical Recovery at the cost of Firewall — acceptable on Vandal because your mobility kit is your defense, not your shield integrity. Torso is flexible; Survival Kit V4 - Torso - Superior** (Superior) extends Heat Capacity if you're finding the Endurance Cradle investment isn't enough.

WEAPON PAIRING AND RANKED VIABILITY

The M77 Assault Rifle - AR (sources list it at 16 DMG, 450 RPM, 24-round magazine, Flex range) is the primary. Its Flex profile means it stays effective whether Amplify pushed you into CQB or you're trading mid-range. Pair the Interval Mag (Prestige) — sources list it as improving ADS spread and aim assist, custom-made for the M77. This directly tightens the spread during the Amplify handling window, which is when you should be taking most of your gunfight attempts.

Secondary: ** CE Tactical Sidearm - Pistol** (20 DMG, 300 RPM, 18-round magazine). Clean pistol for the windows where pulling a rifle out of a slide is unnecessary.

Vandal targets Silver-to-Gold Holotag tiers in solo ranked. The Recharge-heavy Cradle path described above specifically supports that climb: Lethal AMP converts every won duel directly into ability energy, compounding leads instead of bleeding them. If you're already Gold and pushing Prestige, the ceiling is there — Vandal is rated A-tier in both solo and squad ranked queues, and that rating holds up in practice.

The honesty here matters more than the headline promises: studio upheaval mid-cycle means this Vandal guide is databasing, not tracking live meta momentum—and that's a gap when loadout pressure shifts fastest around roster churn. If the Cradle's free-respec leverage is still the climb vector, that's durable, but without concurrent creator signal on *what's actually winning ranked right now*, the build thesis is educated framework, not the forming edge.

Runner, this is honest work—the author admits the database is their only source because the signal is thin right now. That's the opposite of clickbait. The limitation itself is the insight: when creator content and patch data both go quiet, you're reading system knowledge, not hype. Use that clarity to test claims against what you see in your own Cradle runs rather than taking ranked meta on faith.

Article cops to the real constraint upfront—no creator footage, no ranked climbers on record, just system knowledge. That's honest framing, but it means the Vandal build guidance is theory-only; we don't have boots-on-ground confirmation from S2 grinders that this stack actually lands wins. Worth reading for mechanics literacy, but treat it as framework, not a tested ladder blueprint.
