SIGNAL NOTE
No Marathon build videos dropped this cycle — the YouTube content this week is Destiny 2-specific and outside our lane entirely. What follows is a VandalCombat deep-dive driven by the Season 2 patch notes and economy context: the Vandal shell cinematic dropped this week, the C.A.R.R.I. initiative is actively rewarding solo runners, and after the Cradle XP rate nerf the case for a lean, high-uptime movement engine is stronger than ever. One build direction this cycle, tight sourcing.
THE WIN CONDITION
Vandal's ranked power comes from uptime, not burst. While other shells spike hard in one dimension, Vandal's Prime ability Amplify reduces heat generation from movement abilities and increases weapon dexterity simultaneously — meaning it is solving two problems with one button press. The win condition is: stay mobile, deny angles, and punish the runner who commits to a trade while you're already repositioning. In solo ranked, Holotag hunting maps to the B-tier and above where fights are longer and third-party windows are everything. Vandal's Disrupt Cannon Tactical closes gaps or creates space depending on who is pushing, and Power Slide adds a repositioning tool that doesn't eat a cooldown.
The bottleneck in most Vandal builds I see is heat saturation. Runners stack Micro Jets and Power Slide on top of Amplify and run hot constantly, blowing their heat budget before a fight resolves. That is the actual constraint — not damage, not range. Fix heat first.
CORE SELECTION
Start here: Out of Dodge (Enhanced core). When your shields break — which happens in any serious ranked fight — your generated heat is immediately cleared. This single core resets the movement engine mid-fight. Combined with Amplify already reducing movement heat, you get a shield-break state that punishes the attacker's timing rather than your own positioning. This is the heat management solve that frees you to actually use Micro Jets and Power Slide aggressively.
Secondary slot: Adrenal Core (Superior). While Amplified, movement abilities generate even less heat, and using a Cardio Kick extends Amplify's duration. This synergizes with the Full Throttle perk from the Cradle (see below) to extend Amplify windows naturally across a run.
For solo play wanting an edge on finishers: Adrenaline Rush (Enhanced) adds weapon handling while Amplified, tightening gunfights during the ability window if you prefer a more aggressive third core rather than doubling down on heat management.
WEAPON LOADOUT
Primary: **M77 Assault RifleAR**. Sources list it at 16 damage, 450 RPM, 24-round magazine with Flex range — [SOURCE-LISTED] figures, not yet confirmed in-game. The Flex range profile matters here: Vandal fights happen at whatever distance the Power Slide leaves you, not a controlled bracket. The M77 tolerates that.
Mod setup: Interval Mag (Prestige) where accessible — it sources-listed increases range, magazine size, and reload speed alongside an ADS spread reduction. Pairs with **Slip ProtocolChip MODStandard (Superior chip) for the stability and accuracy bonus while moving, which maps directly to the slide-and-fire timing that defines Vandal's mid-fight rhythm. If Interval Mag isn't in your rotation yet, Hi-Speed Mag** (Superior) is the verified fallback: confirmed -0.52s reload, +3 magazine.
Secondary: **KKV-9SDSMG (SMG) for close-range finishes after a Power Slide collapses distance — 8 damage, 1200 RPM, 23 rounds. High rate of fire covers the tracking demand in CQB. Stack Steady BarrelBarrel MODSuperior** (Superior barrel) for stability and ready speed; the weapon comes out of holster fast enough to capitalize on a slide without fumbling.
CRADLE ALLOCATION
Respec is free and costs nothing — lock this path in without hesitation.
Prioritize Endurance to the Quick Vent perk at 3 Energy. Heat recovery beginning more quickly after heat-generating actions is the first fix for slide/jet spam. Then push to Heat Dissipation at 9 Energy for faster heat recovery overall. These two nodes are the foundation; everything else is secondary.
Then Dexterity to Full Throttle at 14 Energy: Cardio Kick effects at the start of every run means your first rotation is always moving at peak speed. Combined with Adrenal Core extending Amplify via Cardio Kick usage, this is where the engine clicks into a loop.
Round out with early Recharge — Head Start at 4 Energy for partial Tactical charge on infil means Disrupt Cannon is available in the first engagement.
All Cradle breakpoints listed here are [UNVERIFIED] values from database sources — confirm your own path at the Cradle planner at /cradle.
IMPLANTS AND RUNNABLE VERSION
Head: **Energy Harvesting V4HeadSuperior** (Superior) — Firewall -5 offset by the 40% Tactical Recovery, which directly feeds Disrupt Cannon uptime.
Legs: **Bionic Leg Upgrades V4LegsSuperior** (Superior) — Agility 50, Finisher Siphon 20. The agility stacks with Amplify's movement speed for a slide profile that is genuinely hard to track. Note the -10% Self-Repair Speed trade; patch kits exist to cover it.
Torso: **Survival Kit V4TorsoSuperior** (Superior) — a heat-neutral torso that covers the ping duration bump, keeping you aware of runner positions while repositioning.
One honest note: this full configuration requires access to Superior and Prestige tier gear. For runners earlier in progression, swap to the Enhanced Traxus Sponsored Kit (2,500 Credits) to get a functional baseline loadout on the map while building Traxus reputation — then layer in the core selections above as your Armory access grows. The Vandal's kit works with inferior mods; the heat management discipline is what makes it work, not the rarity tier.
Ranked target: B through A tier solo, where repositioning frequency separates extractors from eliminated runners. At S tier the margin for heat errors compresses — this build survives that range if the Endurance Cradle path is fully invested.
