Bungie's latest balance patch has significantly nerfed the Biotoxic Disinjector, ending its reign as Marathon's most dominant weapon. Game Director Joe Ziegler confirmed the changes target the weapon's "rich get richer" problem, where successful players became nearly unstoppable.
BIOTOXIC DISINJECTOR CHANGES
The Disinjector's damage over time effect has been reduced by approximately 40%, and its poison spread radius decreased. Previously, a single hit could eliminate entire squads through chain poison effects. Now, Runners need multiple direct hits or follow-up shots to secure eliminations. The weapon remains viable but no longer dominates every engagement range.
NEW WEAPON META IMPLICATIONS
With the Disinjector's power reduced, precision rifles like the Stryder M1T and BR33 Volley Rifle gain significant value. The Stryder M1T's 36 damage per shot at 180 RPM makes it excellent for mid-range picks, especially when paired with Pinpoint Barrel for maximum stability and range. The BR33 Volley Rifle's 900 RPM burst damage excels in the new meta's faster time-to-kill environment.
SHELL ADAPTATION STRATEGIES
Destroyer shells benefit most from this change. The Thruster active ability's knockback effect becomes more valuable when enemies can't rely on poison to finish fights. Pair Destroyer with the Impact HAR running Extended Magazine for sustained pressure, or the Magnum MC with Precision Barrel for high-damage picks. Recon shells also gain value — knowing enemy positions matters more when engagements require sustained damage rather than single poison hits.
RANKED MODE IMPACT
In ranked play, Holotag carriers can no longer rely on Disinjector poison to deter pursuers. Thief shells running Grapple Device need to prioritize escape routes over poison area denial. Vandal shells with Combat Flow passive gain significant value — the movement speed boost after kills becomes crucial for repositioning between engagements in the new longer-TTK environment.
