Marathon Hardline PR: Mid-Range Precision Rifle Guide

Update (October 6, 2026): Update 1.1.9.2 changed the Hardline PR - Precision Rifle, including a shorter damage falloff range (the start moved from 74 meters to 39 meters) and changes to its aim assist, hipfire, ADS and recoil. The distance, map and mod advice below was written for the earlier tuning and has not yet been rewritten.

The Hardline PR is a semi-auto precision rifle chambered in Light Rounds. Before Update 1.1.9.2 it sat at mid-range, with damage falloff starting at 74 meters; that update moved the falloff start to 39 meters, so the distances in this guide are pre-patch. It hits for 23 damage per shot at 275 RPM, with a 14-round magazine. Those numbers paint a clear picture: this is a deliberate, shot-discipline weapon. You are not spraying. You are placing rounds.

The 1.6x precision multiplier is the number that matters most. Land your shots on target, and the Hardline PR punches well above its base damage. Miss them — or let fights collapse into CQB — and you are holding an underperformer. This weapon rewards players who have learned to control their positioning. It will not carry you to that discipline; you need to bring it with you.

It carries five mod slots: Chip, Magazine, Barrel, Grip, and Optics. That is a full loadout of customization, which gives you genuine flexibility in how you tune it for ranked or standard extraction runs.

The Hardline PR wants mods that extend its precision window and reduce the cost of staying on target. Here is what to prioritize across its slots.

For the Barrel slot, the ◈ Farshot Barrel - Barrel MOD - Deluxe is the strongest choice — it meaningfully extends ADS accuracy and range, pushing the weapon further into the mid-range band it already occupies. If you find yourself playing in tighter indoor spaces like Outpost's Pinwheel, the ◈ Ironhold Barrel - Barrel MOD - Enhanced — which increases stability, ready speed, and accuracy while crouched — keeps your shots tight from a stationary position.

For the Optic slot, the Vigilant Lens is purpose-built for this weapon's role: improved zoom, ADS speed, and ADS accuracy in one package. If you want maximum zoom, the Hi-Zoom Optic trades some ADS speed for added range and precision spread reduction. Either works — it depends on whether you value faster acquisition or a tighter beam at the edge of the weapon's range.

For the Grip slot, ◈ Precision Grip - Grip MOD - Superior is the clean answer. It improves ADS stability and reduces vertical recoil, which matters on a semi-auto where each shot lands in a fresh position.

For the Magazine slot, the Hardline PR's 14-round count is not generous for extended fights. ◈ Hi-Cap Mag - Magazine MOD - Deluxe pushes that ceiling significantly. Alternatively, the Adrenal Feedback prestige mag — which is weapon-specific and increases magazine size — is the natural upgrade if you can source it.

For the Chip slot, ◈ Buffer Overflow Chip - Chip MOD - Superior is the standout choice: precision downs and kills stack a reload-speed bonus, which directly rewards the Hardline PR's playstyle. Every precision kill feeds your next engagement. ◈ Ghillie Suit Chip - Chip MOD - Superior — gains to stability, range, and accuracy after a brief crouch — is also strong if you hold angles rather than push them.

The Hardline PR is not a rushing weapon. It is an angle-holder's weapon. That means the shells that benefit most are the ones that give you positional information or defensive stability before you pull the trigger.

Recon - Intel is the strongest pairing in practice. Echo Pulse tells you where hostile Runners are before you commit to a lane. Stalker Protocol — which traces a holographic trail when you break a shield — rewards the exactly the situation the Hardline PR creates: you break a shield at range, you know where they went. Recon is rated A-tier in squad play for good reason, and a mid-range precision rifle keeps that shell comfortable in the engagement ranges it prefers.

Vandal - Combat is the second recommendation. Amplify overcharges movement abilities and reduces the Heat generated by them, which lets you reposition quickly between angles — a semi-auto rifle rewards that kind of play more than a constant-pressure weapon does. Vandal's A-tier rating in both solo and squad ranked makes it a reliable frame for this weapon.

Avoid pairing the Hardline PR with Destroyer - Combat as a primary. Destroyer wants to force close-quarters fights behind Riot Barricade, and a 275 RPM semi-auto precision rifle is wrong for that pressure game. If you find yourself inside 20 meters regularly, that is the weapon telling you to swap, not the shell telling you to push harder.

This guide was written when the Hardline PR was an A-tier mid-range ranked pick. Our tier list currently has it at B-tier, and Update 1.1.9.2 has since cut its falloff range. Players who commit to the weapon's shot discipline and build it correctly will find it competitive at every tier of ranked play.

Map selection matters. Perimeter's wider corridors and open relay zones are ideal territory — you have the sightlines to use long lanes, though since Update 1.1.9.2 the weapon's damage falloff starts at 39 meters, not the 74 meters this guide was written around. Dire Marsh is workable but demands awareness of fog and the weapon's ceiling in close-quarter fog fights. Outpost is the hardest map for the Hardline PR; the Pinwheel's tight interior geometry will punish you if you have not secured a perimeter position first.

- Build for precision reward: Farshot Barrel, Vigilant Lens, Precision Grip, and Buffer Overflow Chip turn this into a consistent threat at mid-range. The 1.6x precision multiplier is your damage engine — slot everything around feeding it.

- Pair with Recon or Vandal, not Destroyer. This weapon earns its value from positional control and information, not forced close-range pressure. Choose a shell that gets you that information before you expose yourself.

- Know your maps. Perimeter is this weapon's best home in ranked. On tighter maps like Outpost, play the perimeter — literally — before you ever enter the contested center.
