Understanding Triage's Role in Squad Play
TriageSupport is Marathon's dedicated medical support shell, and Runners often misunderstand what that means. This is not a shell for passive players who hang back and heal. Triage enables aggressive squad play by keeping your teammates alive through risky engagements. Your Reboot ability can turn a losing fight into a squad wipe, and your Field Medic passive makes you the difference between extraction and elimination.
With 130 HP and 40 shields, you're more durable than AssassinStealth or ThiefStealth, but you need positioning discipline. Your Medium speed means you won't outrun trouble, so you position to support, not flee.
Active Ability: Reboot - The Squad Clutch
Reboot emits a healing pulse that restores HP to nearby squadmates. This is your fight-turning tool. The key insight most Runners miss: Reboot works best in the middle of fights, not after them. When your DestroyerCombat is taking heavy fire while pushing a Holotag carrier, that's when you pop Reboot to keep them in the fight.
The ability has generous range - you don't need to be touching your teammates. Use cover to protect yourself while keeping them in the healing radius. Good Triage players use Reboot proactively when they see their squad's HP dropping, not reactively when someone's already down.
Passive: Field Medic - Faster, Better Revives
Your revive speed increase is substantial, but the real value is in the HP restoration. When you revive a teammate, they come back with more health than a standard revive. This means they can immediately re-engage instead of hiding to heal.
In ranked play, this translates to sustained pressure. Enemy squads expect revived players to be weak and vulnerable. Your revives put teammates back in the fight immediately, often catching opponents off-guard.
Trait: Shareware.exe - Medical Efficiency
Benefits from medical consumables are shared between crew members with Med-Drone attached to them. This makes your squad's consumable economy incredibly efficient. One health pack becomes team sustain when properly managed.
The Med-Drone attachment system requires coordination. Call out when you're attaching to teammates, and they need to stay in reasonable range to maintain the connection. A coordinated Triage squad uses half the medical consumables of an uncoordinated one.
Ranked Performance: Squad S-Tier, Solo D-Tier
Triage's ranked value is entirely squad-dependent. In coordinated teams, you're S-tier because you enable the aggressive plays that win ranked matches. Your Destroyer can push harder, your ReconIntel can take risks for intel, and your VandalCombat can commit to fights they might otherwise avoid.
Solo queue is brutal for Triage. You can't carry fights through raw damage output, and uncoordinated teammates won't position to benefit from your healing. If you're playing solo ranked, choose Vandal or Thief instead.
Optimal Squad Compositions
Triage pairs perfectly with high-aggression shells. Destroyer + Triage is the classic combo - Destroyer forces engagements and drops Holotags, while Triage keeps them alive through the aftermath. Vandal + Triage works similarly, with Vandal's mobility creating flanking opportunities that Triage can support.
Recon + Triage creates information-based squad play. Recon spots enemies and Holotag carriers, while Triage enables the team to commit to those callouts without fear of being caught in bad positions.
Equipment Recommendations
Focus on weapons that work at medium range where you can support without being the primary target. The M77 Assault RifleAR (16 damage, 450 RPM) is ideal for Triage players - reliable damage output with Flex range that works in most situations.
The Hardline PRPrecision Rifle (23 damage, 275 RPM) gives you long-range capability to support from safer positions. Avoid close-range weapons like the BRRT SMGSMG unless you're confident in your positioning skills.
For mods, prioritize stability and handling over raw damage output. The Precision GripGrip MODSuperior greatly improves ADS stability and reduces vertical recoil, making your shots more consistent when supporting teammates under pressure.
Heat Management and Positioning
Your abilities generate heat, and poor heat management gets support players killed. Don't spam Reboot - use it strategically when multiple teammates need healing or when you're turning a specific fight. Let your heat dissipate between major engagements.
Position yourself where you can support the team's aggressive plays without becoming the primary target. This usually means slightly behind your frontline fighters, with cover available, but close enough for Reboot range.
Takeaways:
- Triage is only viable in coordinated squads - avoid solo queue ranked with this shell until you have consistent teammates. - Use Reboot proactively during fights, not reactively after teammates are downed - you turn losing fights into winning ones. - Your revives restore more HP than standard revives, putting teammates immediately back into combat effectiveness rather than forcing them to hide and heal.
