WHAT THE DAMAGE UPDATE CHANGES
Season 2 went live October 15 after a maintenance window of roughly 90 minutes, and the headline for weapon choice is the Damage Update. Bulkhead's reasoning is that .308 and 7.62x54mmR were built for sniper rifles, where slow fire and small magazines offset big per-shot damage. In assault rifles, DMRs and LMGs, those same rounds were doing close to sniper damage at a much faster fire rate. The notes say picking anything else felt like a disadvantage.
Player reaction is not available yet. The patch only just published, and none of the community material we hold covers it. Everything below is the official notes, plus our analysis, marked as such.
THE NUMBERS THAT MOVE THE META
Base damage reductions apply per caliber, to infantry and vehicle weapons alike:
- .308 Winchester: -25%
- 7.62x54mmR: -20%
- 7.62x39mm: -19%
- .50 Cal: -16%
The new M14 and Evo-3 Ultra both fire .308 Win, and the new TCX-SPR fires 7.62x39mm. All three launch under these cuts. The FAL keeps the highest damage per shot among assault rifles, but the notes say it now sits closer to the TCX-SPR and M4.
Other damage changes:
- DMR headshots and upper-body hits are slightly weaker, and all DMRs get a new recoil pass.
- Assault rifle body shots do slightly less damage.
- LMG body damage now matches assault rifles.
- Sniper rifles get increased hit-location damage to offset the base cut.
- Scout Rifle headshots now one-shot targets with no helmet, and a Level 1 helmet takes two.
Armor also changes. Level 3 damage reduction drops from 55% to 50%, and Level 4 from 65% to 60%. The new suppression system gives Level 3 helmets 68% suppression reduction and Level 4 helmets 80%. 12 gauge slugs and the Compound Bow now scale against armor by tier instead of taking one flat reduction.
THE ECONOMY IS PUSHING THE SAME WAY
Pricing and unlock changes line up with the damage pass:
- AK74 drops from $1,600 to $800 and is now unlocked by default on the Assault track.
- The M4 moves from level 20 to 28 and from $100k to $150k to unlock.
- The FAL goes from $200k to $250k to unlock, though its vendor price eases from $6,500 to $6,000.
- The PKM unlocks at level 15 instead of 30 and its unlock fee drops from $150k to $100k.
- The Super-45 gets harsher damage fall-off beyond 50m and its vendor price rises from $2,600 to $5,600.
- The AMR 50 vendor price rises from $8,800 to $14,800.
- The MP5 gets a more horizontal recoil pattern.
WHAT TO WATCH
The DMR and sniper trade-off is the open question. Lower body-shot damage, softer DMR headshots and higher sniper hit-location damage should widen the gap between a DMR and a sniper. Whether the M14, with its recoil pass, becomes a real Recon pick at its $7,400 vendor price depends on matches the notes can't settle.
Evidence this cycle is one official patch. Creator coverage is thin: a Season 2 trailer, a clip-contest reveal, and a pre-patch video on the leg-damage meta, which we cannot describe beyond its title. Give the numbers a week of lobbies before you commit your unlock grind.
